Choosing an bmw engine for drift car

Avoid two types of bmw engines at all costs- the high compression engine and the small sized ones, However, even the high compression ones can be fitted with a turbo kit, provided that the fuel you are using has a high octane number. There are also small turbo kits that can be put into small sized engines.

“Over-engineered” bmw engine type

Over-engineered engines are the too-well constructed ones. It would be awesome if you find such an engine! Why? Well, you will certainly be able to utilize every extra horse power you can squeeze out of the turbo kit.

BMW Engine renewal

A lot of people refit an engine with a turbo kit after a certain mileage, usually around 200,000km. Needless to say, the engine’s durability is of utmost importance here. If you are on a budget, you can always use a second had engine and renew it completely. If you’ve got enough money to spend, it would be better to repair it before outfitting it with a turbo kit. However you’ve got to be absolutely certain that you are using quality parts that will withstand the engine’s power.

Choosing a crank shaft

The stock crank shafts are usually fine for engines outfitted with a turbo kit. If you are are planning ot modify the crank shaft, you need to choose one that has overlapping teeth and valves with good enough lifting force. This will reduce the “rear pressure” effect (the pressure at the exhaust pipe’s end) without reducing the volumetric efficiency tof the engine. Drift Car
by Stephen Hill Photography under CC-SA Turbo kits are very effective when it comes to air flow problems, which are usually solved with another type of a crank shaft- the “aggressive” one.

This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. You’ve got a design here that’s not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as what you’re saying. Great job, indeed.
